
Parent Boost Visitor Visa — Longer Family Visits
The New Zealand government has introduced the new Parent Boost Visa to help families stay connected. This multiple-entry visitor visa allows eligible parents of New Zealand citizens or residents to stay in New Zealand for up to 5 years per visa. A second visa may be granted (so a parent could stay up to 10 years total) if eligibility and visa conditions continue to be met.
This visa is a visitor visa only and does not provide a pathway to residence. Applications open from 29 September 2025.

Sponsor Eligibility
The sponsor must be the applicant’s biological or adopted child and a New Zealand citizen or resident. Sponsors must agree to:
- Cover accommodation and daily living costs.
- Ensure access to health and financial support.
- Cover repatriation or deportation costs if required.
Financial Requirements
- Sponsor earns at least NZ median wage (1.5× for joint sponsors).
- OR Parent has income equal to NZ Superannuation (NZD $32,611.28 single / NZD $49,552.88 couple).
- OR Parent(s) hold sufficient funds (NZD $160,000 single / NZD $250,000 couple).
Health Insurance
Applicants must hold and maintain health insurance covering:
- Emergency care (min. NZD $250,000/year).
- Repatriation and return of remains.
- Cancer treatment (min. NZD $100,000).
Two health checks are required — one at application, and another in the 3rd year while outside NZ. Proof of continuous health insurance must also be shown.
