Sponsor Eligibility

The sponsor must be the applicant’s biological or adopted child and a New Zealand citizen or resident. Sponsors must agree to:

• Cover accommodation and daily living costs.
• Ensure access to health and financial support.
• Cover repatriation or deportation costs if required.

Financial Requirements

• Sponsor earns at least NZ median wage (1.5× for joint sponsors).
• OR Parent has income equal to NZ Superannuation (NZD $32,611.28 single / NZD $49,552.88 couple).
• OR Parent(s) hold sufficient funds (NZD $160,000 single / NZD $250,000 couple).

Health Insurance

Applicants must hold and maintain health insurance covering:

• Emergency care (min. NZD $250,000/year).
• Repatriation and return of remains.
• Cancer treatment (min. NZD $100,000).

Two health checks are required — one at application, and another in the 3rd year while outside NZ. Proof of continuous health insurance must also be shown.
